Lake George

A sunny fall day is the perfect time to rent a boat or paddle around Lake George in a canoe or kayak. Enjoy minimal boat traffic and panoramic views of the fall-colored Adirondack Mountains, or take a sightseeing cruise around the lake. The Lake George Steamboat Company features a variety of brunch, lunch, dinner and sightseeing cruises through the last weekend in October.

Bolton Landing

Hike to the summit of Cat or Thomas Mountains in Bolton Landing for stunning views of the Lake George Narrows, Buck Mountain and Dome Island engulfed in the colors of fall. The Cat Mountain Red Trail takes an average of 2 hours and 20 minutes, while Thomas Mountain averages about 1 hour and 40 minutes. Both hikes are considered moderately challenging.

Hague

Take a scenic drive up 9N from Lake George Village into Bolton Landing and over the Tongue Mountain range for some spectacular fall foliage. After driving down the backside of the mountain, stop off at the Hague Lookout for even more impressive views. For an extended drive, head west on State Route 8 to Brant Lake or continue north to Ticonderoga.

Fort Ann

Bike your way through the fall foliage on the Champlain Canalway Trail. This 12-mile section of the Empire State Trail connects Fort Ann with the neighboring town of Fort Edward. Bike along low-traffic local roads and hard-packed stone dust trails while enjoying scenic vistas, the Champlain Canals and locks, farms, woods and wetlands.

Lake Luzerne

Explore the fall colors on a guided horseback ride in Lake Luzerne. Located on Gage Hill Road, Mountain View Rocking B Ranch offers one-hour trail rides and two-hour mountain rides, as well as specialty rides that combine breathtaking views with great food. Family-owned and operated since 1942, Rocking B Ranch is open weekends throughout the fall.
