Dog-Friendly Things to Do in Lake George

Lake George is a dog-friendly vacation destination, offering several pooch-approved hikes, parks, beaches and restaurants. You’ll also find many dog-friendly vacation home rentals in Lake George, with plenty of luxury amenities for guests of the two-legged variety. Still on the fence? Check out this list of dog-friendly things to do in Lake George, and start planning your trip.

Lake George Dog Park

The Lake George Recreation Center is a popular spot for outdoor activities, including hiking, cross-country skiing and snow tubing, but it also features a fenced in dog park. The free park is located at the end of Transfer Road and includes separate designated areas for large dogs and small breeds to run off-leash, play and, well, just be dogs.

Dog Beach in Lake George

Located on Beach Road between the Lake George Steamboat Company docks and Million Dollar Beach, this stretch of state-owned land isn’t an official beach, but it’s the place to be for those with furry family members. The sandy shoreline is perfect for dogs to play off-leash and swim in the lake. There are no lifeguards or facilities on site, but there are a limited number of benches, as well as trash cans for cleaning up after your pet.

Dog-Friendly Hikes in Lake George

Dogs are permitted on many of the hiking trails in Lake George and the surrounding Adirondacks, but you’ll want to research the trails beforehand to ensure they are appropriate for your dog’s size, age and fitness level. In general, Pilot Knob Preserve, Buck Mountain, Prospect Mountain, Sleeping Beauty and Stewart’s Ledge are all manageable hikes for healthy, medium-sized dogs, and they offer great views for their owners, too.

Dog-Friendly Dining in Lake George

Many Lake George restaurants allow dogs on the patio and outdoor seating areas during the summer months, and a few permit dogs inside. Some of the popular spots include Adirondack Pub & Brewery, Barnsider Smokehouse BBQ, Christie’s on the Lake, The Docksider Restaurant, The Garrison, Lake George Beach Club, and Frederick’s Restaurant & Lounge. Polices can change, so we just recommend that guests call ahead to confirm that dogs are still allowed.
